Just a Few Reasons to be Proud of Henry County Public Schools
  • All schools are Fully Accredited.
  • Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) student enrollment is over 7,000.
  • HCPS is the largest employer in Martinsville and Henry County with over 1,150 full-time employees and over 450 part-time employees.
  • Over 40% of HCPS teachers have an advanced degree.
  • The HCPS student/computer ratio is 2:1.  (The state requirement is 5:1.)
  • The school division has the largest iPad initiative in the state with over 3,000 iPads in use by students at all grade levels.
  • HCPS was the recipient of a V.A.S.S. grant and the number of students enrolled in AP courses has dramatically increased (262 students in 2009-2010 to approximately 1,300 in 2010-2011.)
  • HCPS On-Time Graduate Rate is 88.3%.
  • Rich Acres Elementary School is a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School (one of six public schools in Virginia).
  • Five Henry County elementary schools received 2012 Virginia Index of Performance Awards -- Drewry Mason, Mt. Olivet, Rich Acres, Sanville, and Stanleytown elementary schools.
  • The 2010-2011 operating budget for HCPS is $69,182,026.
  • Both HCPS high schools offer industry certification/state licensure options, dual enrollment and advanced placement courses, and the Commonwealth's Scholar Program for students.
  • In 2011, 561 students graduated from a Henry County high school.
    • 529 graduates took at least one CTE course in middle or high school;
    • 411 graduates completes a CTE program;
    • 2011 graduates received over $1.8 million in scholarships; and 
    • 241 received advanced studies diplomas.
  • Henry County Public Schools partners with the Piedmont Governor's School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
