2003-2004

  • Henry County Schools embarked on a journey in September 2003. The instruction department initiated a study of differentiated instruction.
  • Henry County Schools applied for a grant from The Harvest Foundation for literacy and mathematics -December 2003

  • Henry County School's faculty read and discussed Fulfilling the Promise of the Differentiated Classroom.

2004-2005

  • During the summer, two day workshops were held with consultants. Each school met with their consultants and studied differentiation of instruction.
  • Consultants visited schools throughout the year observing classes, meeting with administration, and reviewing plans with faculties.
  • In the fall of 2004, Dr. Lane Narvaez and Dr. Kay Brimijoin briefed all principals and the curriculum staff on a successful differentiation program in St. Louis, Missouri.

  • Two groups of elementary and curriculum staff representatives visited the successful differentiation program in St. Louis, Missouri. Teachers were invited to observe and talk with teachers and parents participating in this successful program.
  • On December 9, 2004, the two groups of elementary teachers, principals, and Harvest Foundation representatives met to discuss what they had learned in St. Louis.
  • On January 6, 2005, Differentiation of Instruction in Henry County Schools was the instructional highlight for the school board meeting.]
