 All three programs share the following components:
  • Follow a full day schedule (8:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.) Monday through Friday, with yearly schedule following the school system's calendar.
  • Transportation to home school zone or assigned school if Special Education Services are necessary.
  • Breakfast, lunch, and snack served daily.
  • Designated "nap" or rest time provided daily.
  • Participate in field trips to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Require parent involvement to varying degrees.
  • Provide certified or qualified instructors.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate instruction following the High/Scope curriculum.
  • Participation in the preschool program is free of charge.
  

Virginia Preschool Initiative Program (VPI)

  • Children must be four years of age by September 30, 2013 and meet criteria for enrollment.
  • Sixteen students enrolled in a class with a teacher and an assistant.
  • Home/School Coordinators and Teachers conduct home visits during the year.

Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Program (ECSE)

  • Children must be three or four years of age by September 30, 2013 and qualify for the program
    after the completion of a special education evaluation.
  • Maximum of eight special education children enrolled full-time in the class with a teacher and an
    assistant.
  • Instruction is designed around each child's Individualized Education Plan "IEP" outlining his/her
    academic needs.
To be eligible for the programs, a child must meet the following requirements:
  • Preschool children must be four years of age by September 30, 2013.
  • Early Childhood Special Education Preschool children with special needs must be between three
    and four years of age by September 30, 2013.
  • Each child must complete the screening for Henry County Public Schools.
  • Required preschool immunizations, birth certificate, social security card, and verification of income
    must be provided.
  • Must be a resident of Henry County and provide verification of residency.
Along with the completed application, documentation verifying family income must be
provided (2012 Federal Income Tax Return). The child's eligibility for the program is based
on the required documentation. Henry County Schools will notify parents/guardians of the date and location for the child's screening. Each child must have a scheduled appointment before being screened.
Since a limited number of children may attend a program, those who are eligible and not
enrolled will be placed on a waiting list.

Completed preschool applications may be returned to any elementary school or the School Board Office on Kings Mountain Road.  If you have any questions, you may contact Henry County Public Schools at 634-4716.
