Since 2018 I have been MOE's Reading Specialist I have experience as an Instructional Coach with a large history of working in the primary education field. I am skilled in teaching reading, planning lessons, creating differentiated instruction, and developing curriculum. I'm a "Life-Long" learner with a Master's Degree focused on Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University. I have been trained by CODEVA as a Computer Science Coach. Recently, I was recognized by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham as a Classroom Educator in Multisensory Structured Language Education. This is an effective teaching method for a child with learning difficulties arising from dyslexia.
My husband is a business owner in our community and my son is a graduate of the University of Virginia. He currently lives in Fort Collins, CO near the Rocky Mountains. The picture attached is from that location. I am a caregiver for my 95-year old grandmother. She is Mrs. Nanny May Martin.
Returning to Mt. Olivet as a teacher is an unexpected honor. I attended Mt. Olivet Elementary as a student and later graduated from Laurel Park High School.
The Minnesota Vikings are my favorite professional team. I have been a fan since the late '70s. I enjoy reading, watching movies, learning new things and traveling. I am learning to sew. I am a big fan of the color green. That may be one of the reasons I love being a volunteer for the 4H Youth Program in our community. I attend camp every year to teach arts and crafts and be lodge dean. 4H allows me an opportunity to support campers using my teaching skills. The best part is is that it offers me an opportunity to spend time with former students.
