    Course Syllabus and Policies

    Course Description

    In this course, students develop the necessary knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes for entry-level employment and advancement in areas such as floriculture, landscape design, greenhouse operation, nursery plant production, and turf management.  They receive instruction in using soil and other plant-growing media and in identifying, propagating, and growing horticultural plants in the greenhouse and land laboratory. Instruction is provided in safety practices and leadership development.

     

    Daily Supplies

    • iPad/Computer
    • 3-Ring Binder
    • Loose leaf paper OR Spiral Notebook
    • Pencils and Pens to last the entire course

     

    FFA Participation

    It is encouraged but not mandatory that each student enrolled in agriculture education course become an FFA member. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Dues are $20.

     

    Citizenship

    Students are expected to abide by all regulations set forth in the “Magna Vista High School Handbook.”  Students are also expected to be in class every day on time, respect your classmates, and do your best work.

     

    Makeup Work

    Students are responsible for making up missed assignments due to student activities, Internal Suspension, and absences. Three days upon return to school are allowed for students to make arrangements with the instructor for make up work. Once a deadline is set, work must be in by that date.

     

    Assessment Procedures

    All assignments will be graded using the standard Henry County School System grading scale (see handbook).

    Assessments will include, but not limited to, the following:

    • Class Assignments
    • Unit Tests/Quizzes/Projects
    • Grades for class participation and/or lab performance

     

    General Procedures

    Follow Rules for Mrs. Martin’s Classroom.

    Learning To Do: Students are expected to participate in all classroom activities.

    Doing To Learn: Students are required to be prepared for all classroom activities.

    Earning To Live: In this classroom, everything is earned. This includes grades, privileges, and respect.

    Living to Serve: Students are expected to respect their fellow classmates and display the characteristics of a leader.

    Follow all safety guidelines and the Henry County Public Schools Code of Conduct.

      

    Virtual Expectations

    It is important that students understand their responsibility as learners to engage in their virtual classrooms each day. In addition, they are responsible for the same regulations as listed in their Code of Conduct. This includes appropriate online behavior within the virtual platform.  

    Students are expected to:

    • Sign into the virtual classroom daily- keep connected 
    • Demonstrate learning with completion of course assignments
    • Seek help when needed
    • Be patient with yourselves and your teachers- we are all learning together!
