SOME OF MRS. HAGOOD'S RESPONSIBILITIES...
Classroom Guidance
Every K-5 homeroom class has a scheduled time for Classroom Guidance, every-other week. Guidance classes are 30 minutes for Kindergarten students, and 40 minutes for students in grades one through five. Lessons focus on the three main areas of content required by the VA Standards of Learning - Academic Development, Career Development, & Personal/Social Development. Our PK students have montly scheduled guidance times, and their classes last for 30 minutes in duration. Students participate in a wide variety of hands-on, fun, and interactive lessons covering Character Education, Personal Hygiene, Social Skills, Career Education, Bully Prevention, and Study Skills - just to name a few!
Individual Counseling
In the event that any student should have a special need or concern, this type of counseling is available. At the elementary level, topics may involve behavior problems, social skills, grief/trauma, divorce, or any personal issue that concerns the child. Individual counseling sessions are highly confidential, and parents are notified if their child requires ongoing individual counseling services. Resources are also available for outside counseling services, if needed.
Small Group Counseling
Small groups are implemented, as necessary, to meet the needs of the student body. Counseling sessions are confidential, and students are required to sign confidentiality statements. In addition, parent permission is obtained prior to a child's participation. Topics may include self-control, anger management, grief, divorce, friendship skills, self-esteem, or other important issues.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The RAE Classroom Guidance Curriculum is a 13-week, bi-monthly program which covers all of the standards (SOLs) for school counseling programs in Virginia public schools. Our program utilizes a wide variety of resources and engaging lessons surrounding the main content areas of Character Education, Career Education, & Bully Prevention Education. In addition, all lessons encompass at least one of the 4 C's (College & Career Readiness Skills) as well as Depth of Knowledge levels. Each grade level lesson is different, meaning that from kindergarten through fifth grade, students will receive 78 diverse, forty-minute Classroom Guidance lessons. That equates to 52 HOURS (or 3,120 minutes) of guidance instruction over the course of their elementary school career.
