(The response categories are listed for reference only. An administrator may choose a higher response category than what is listed if he or she believes the violation warrants a more severe response or if the student has had multiple offenses of the same or a similar nature.)

General Provisions

  • Maintaining a safe learning environment is the top priority of Henry County Public Schools. Offenses that threaten the health, safety, and welfare of students or staff are deemed to be serious and the consequences can be severe and may include criminal charges.
  • A violation that causes harm or injury will have a consequence that increases as the severity of the harm or injury increases.
  • Violations involving physical contact or threatening behavior towards staff members are considered to be more egregious than those towards student peers
  • Acts of harassment, particularly sexual harassment, can result in the immediate removal of the student from his or her normal class schedule and may carry additional exclusionary consequences
  • Offenses involving prohibited substances—drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc.—increase in severity when there is an element of distribution.
  • Behavior that impedes learning or disrupts the orderly learning environment of the schools will not be tolerated.
  • The violations listed are representative of prohibited acts but in no way capture all acts that could violate the Code of Student Conduct. Staff members have the authority to address any act that does not have a positive impact on the learning environment.
