Hi. I'm Janice Largen. I can say I've never been more thrilled to start a new year. Last year was so very hard for us all. While we aren't EXACTLY back to normal, we are one step closer, and that makes my heart happy.
All of us on the administration team can help you, but there are certain focal points that we have each undertaken. Some of these are new for me, and some are second nature. Either way, as long as I get to work with students, all is well.
For 2021-2022, I will be in charge of the following larger tasks:
- 9th Grade (activities, academics, parent contact, discipline, etc.)
- English Department
- Health and PE Department
- Media Center
- School Messenger
My one request of you is that if you have an issue with one of your student's classes, please contact the teacher first, and give him/her the courtesy of a conversation to discuss your issue. If you don't feel like the issue has been resolved, then, please give me a call.
On a more personal note, I am a graduate of Patrick County High School. I attended Longwood University where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After college, I moved to Richmond for a few years where I worked at the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. When my son turned one, we moved back to Patrick County, so I could raise him in a small-town environment. I went back to school to get my teaching certificate while I served as a substitute teacher. I taught English and Yearbook Journalism in Patrick County for fifteen years serving grades 6-12. In 2015, I went back to school and completed work to receive a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from James Madison University.
I came to Henry County in January of 2019 as the Supervisor of the Regional Alternative Program. In August of 2019, I became an Assistant Principal here at Bassett. My first year was certainly an exciting one as COVID-19 cut the year short for us. This upcoming year looks to be just as challenging as COVID-19 still lingers and forces us to rethink education as we have always known it. I am confident that this year will be challenging for us all, but I have no doubt that we will rise to the occasion Bengal Strong.
Please feel free to contact me at any time. I am always happy to help. If I don't know an answer, I'll be sure to find an answer for your quickly. I can be reached at our main number (276) 629-1731 Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to another great year with you and your family!
