MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
THE SUPERINTENDENT OF HENRY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
THE SHERIFF OF HENRY COUNTY
The Division Superintendent of School Board of Henry County Public Schools (hereinafter referred to as the “Superintendent” and “HCPS”) and the Sheriff of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office (hereinafter referred to as the “Sheriff” and “HCSO”) hereby enter into this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster relations of mutual respect and understanding in order to build a positive and safe school environment. The parties recognize the benefits of the School Resource Officer Program and agree that it remains in the best interest of the Superintendent, the Sheriff, and the citizens of Henry County to maintain this program.
ALL RESPONSES to school misconduct should be reasonable, consistent, and fair, with appropriate consideration of mitigating factors and of the nature and severity of the incident. Students should receive appropriate redirection and support from in-school and community resources prior to the consideration of suspension, expulsion, involvement of law enforcement, or referral to court.
NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises and covenants herein contained, the Superintendent and Sheriff agree as follows:
The partnership is intended to facilitate effective, timely communication and coordination of efforts for both parties—HCPS and HCSO. The purpose of this MOU is to establish a mutually beneficial framework that both schools and law enforcement can work within to achieve shared goals.
