BREADCRUMB

POINTS OF PRIDE HCPS student enrollment is over 7,000 across nine elementary schools (including nine preschool programs), two middle schools, two high schools, a regional alternative program, community learning center, career academy and an adult education program.

HCPS is the largest employer in Martinsville and Henry County with over 1,150 full-time employees and over 450 part-time employees.

Over 45% of HCPS teachers have an advanced degree.

The school division has the largest iPad/digital textbook initiative in Virginia with more than 5,000 iPads for use by students in all grade levels. The HCPS student/iPad ratio is 1:1 in the 3rd-10th grades, while the student/iMac ratio is also 1:1 in our Bengal and Warrior Tech Programs.

Both HCPS high schools offer industry certification/state licensure options, dual enrollment and advanced placement courses, and the Commonwealth's Scholar Program for students.

In addition to student iPad use, each high school participates in a BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) technology program. Students may register their personal devices on the school wi-fi system for use in the classroom and for recreational purposes in designated common areas. This program serves as a complement to district-provided laptops and MacBooks, personal response devices, Apple TVs, and SMARTBoards in the classroom.

As a part of our Professional Learning Community, teachers enjoy:

  • Beginning teacher mentorship program
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Stipends for advanced degrees and National Board Certification
  • Collaborative learning and working environments
  • Technology-rich classrooms
  • Professional learning and recertification opportunities
  • Employee purchase options

Instant Parental Notification System - All HCPS parents are notified in minutes with the correct message and what they need to do in the event of an emergency. Parents and/or other designated family members receive communications via telephone, email, text and cell phone informing them of the situation and how they should respond.

All elementary school classrooms (and some middle and high school classrooms) are equipped with Sound Amplification Systems. The teacher wears a wireless, infrared microphone, and his/her voice is played through loudspeakers for the entire class to hear. This ensures that every student has a front row seat.

ACE Academy - HCPS partners with Patrick Henry Community College to provide high school students with the opportunity to earn an Associate's Degree in general studies while completing their high school program of study.

Helping Hands - HCPS partners with various civic organizations, businesses, and faith-based groups to provide support through volunteer opportunities at our schools
