Substitute teacher daily pay rates effective 2024-2025 include the following:

| Substitute Teacher (Retired Licensed) Long Term (>10 days) | $180.00 per day |
| Substitute Teacher, Long Term with intent to hire as Teacher (new teacher) | $241.35 per day |
| Substitute Teacher, Long Term with intent to hire as Teacher (w/ experience) | Daily rate of Coord. Step |
| Substitute Teacher (Bachelor's or Master's Degree) | $120.00 per day |
| Substitute Teacher (Bachelor's or Master's only) Long Term (>10 days) | $140.00 per day |
| Substitute Teacher (H.S. Diploma, Associate's Degree, ParaPro Test or 2 Years College) | $100.00 per day |
| Substitute Teacher Aide (Special Education Only) | $100.00 per day |
| Substitute Support Staff | $100.00 per day |
After all necessary documentation (listed below) is completed and provided to the school district, the substitute's name will be placed on the district's list of approved substitute teachers.
Interested applicants must complete an online application and meet the following criteria:
- Substitute teachers are required to take a TB (tuberculosis) test.
- Substitute teachers must hold an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree OR have a high school diploma.
- Substitute teachers must pass a criminal background check, which includes fingerprints, as well as a registry check with Virginia's Child Protective Services.
- Substitute teachers must complete substitute teacher orientation.
