Eligibility

Is my child eligible?

What is the Age Requirement for Little Henry?

Children must be age 2 by September 30th of the academic year for which services are being sought.

How is a Child Found Eligible for Little Henry Services?

First, a referral must be made to Henry County Public Schools.  Referrals come from many sources, including parents, doctors, social workers, and counselors who suspect a child has a disability or developmental delay.

What Happens after a Referral?

A School-Based Intervention Team (S-BIT) screening and meeting will be conducted, with the parent as a participant, to assess whether or not the child is displaying delays.   The team reviews all current information regarding concerns with the child’s level of functioning.  If the team suspects the child has a disability or delays that warrant further evaluation, the child will be referred for a special education evaluation.  The evaluation process generally takes 3 months (65 business days) for the child to be assessed by a multi-disciplinary team.  In order to be eligible, the child must meet federal and state criteria to receive special education services and the team must determine the delay(s) are not primarily the result of cultural factors, environmental issues, economic disadvantages, or limited English proficiency.

What Happens if my Child is Found Eligible?

The school system has 30 calendar days to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and conduct a meeting with you to review the plan.  The IEP will describe the type, length, and location of services the child will be provided.
