HCPS AI Literacy Plan
Cultivate a Community-wide Understanding of Generative AI
Develop a community-wide understanding of Generative AI by providing comprehensive education to teachers, leaders, students, staff, and the broader community. The objective is to create an AI-literate stakeholder base who understand how GenAI works and what it can do. AI should never replace human judgment. While it can accelerate the synthesis and analysis of information, it will never substitute for teachers who offer wisdom, context, feedback, empathy, nurturing, and humanity in ways that a machine cannot. AI should not overshadow or override the critical thinking, judgment, and moral reasoning of the learner.
Empower Stakeholders to Be Critical Consumers of Generative AI
Equip stakeholders with the skills to critically evaluate AI tools and outputs, recognizing the potential for AI to perpetuate biases and misinformation. The objective is to encourage the use of human judgment (human in the loop) to guide appropriate AI use, ensuring it is integrated responsibly into learning and life.
Promote Equitable Access and Innovative Use of Generative AI
Provide equitable opportunities for all stakeholders to engage with AI tools by supporting their use for ideation, creativity, and problem-solving. The objective is to bridge digital divides, inspire innovative thinking, and develop essential skills for future readiness in a technology-driven world.
Foster Ethical Decision-Making in AI Integration
Guide stakeholders in applying ethical frameworks to AI use, focusing on privacy, consent, and social impact. The objective is to ensure AI adoption in education aligns with community values and promotes trustworthiness.
Build Digital Citizenship in the Age of AI
Guide stakeholders in applying ethical frameworks to AI use, focusing on privacy, consent, and social impact. Teacher students, teachers, and families the principles of responsible digital citizenship, including the ethical use of AI tools and respecting intellectual property. The objective is to cultivate a community that uses AI responsibility and respects the rights of others.
