In Henry County Public Schools (HCPS), VDOE credit recovery refers to opportunities that allow students to make up failed or incomplete high school credits through a combination of approved online learning programs such as Virtual Virginia and other state approved providers and in person direct instruction.
Students may complete instruction at their own pace online while also receiving targeted, face to face academic support from HCPS teachers. This blended approach helps students address unfinished learning in core subjects, reinforces essential skills, and increases the likelihood of successful course completion.
All credit recovery options must be requested and approved through the student’s school principal, who along with the counselor, will review the student’s transcript, explain HCPS and VDOE graduation requirements, and determine the most appropriate mix of online coursework and in person instructional support. Counselors also assist with enrollment and ensure that each student’s recovery plan aligns with HCPS pathways to graduation.
