
Grading Practices
All grading and assessment practices aim to reflect what a student knows, understands, and can do. The overarching goal is mastery and growth, supported through equitable opportunities for learning and reassessment.
Teachers will use two types of grades: Summative and Formative.
Formative Assessments 40%
A formative assessment is a type of evaluation used by teachers during the learning process to monitor students’ understanding, provide feedback, and guide instruction.
Examples:
Quizzes given during or at the end of a lesson, worksheets, exit tickets, journal entries, rough drafts, homework, classwork, etc.
*Could be scored for accuracy or completion*
Summative Assessments 60%
A summative assessment is an evaluation conducted at the end of an instrucitonal period to measure how well students have mastered the learning objectives.
Examples:
Unit/chapter tests, quizzes, midterm exams, major projects/presentations, labs, final essays, portfolios, performances, debates, etc.
*MUST be scored for accuracy*
